The NIWE Wireless furnace is demonstrated at F2A facilities

Last March, in the facilities of F2A, started the demonstration of the two WPT ( Wireless Power Transfer) of 100 kW developed in the project NIWE.

With the WPT system is possible to avoid the overheating and adapt the usual layout for aluminium moulding. The new lay-out allows to avoid the overheating up to 720 ºC, as the WPT maintains the aluminium molten at a constant temperature of 680ºC. Therefore the system improves the energy efficiency of the process while improving the quality and the control of the aluminium. The energy needed to maintain the molten aluminium is really low, around 28 kWh to maintain around 500 kg Aluminium.

Important aspects of the new lay-out :

  • The maintenance furnace will be able to be transferred to different positions. the new furnace will be filled with molten metal directly from the melting furnace. Then, molten metal will be degassed and alloyed if necessary, and finally dedrossed.
  • Temperature will not decrease during cleaning operations, due to the fact that energy transmission can be maintained wirelessly.
  • Once the first furnace becomes empty the second one will be ready to be interchanged and transferred from one to the other position, in a continuous loop.
